 | Fall Home Security Tips |
james writes "We are heading into the fall season. The beautiful sunny days are almost over and
gone, and it's time to take a look at the safety and security of our homes. Take a few minutes to review your habits and look at your locks.
1. Locks. Inspect your doors and windows. Solid frames, well-fitting doors and windows, and good quality (grade 2) deadbolt locks on your entry doors. This includes the door between your garage and the home. 2. Look at your outdoor lighting. This is one of the biggest deterrents to crime. You want to accomplish two things: 1 - ensure the safety of people coming to your door by having a well-lit walkway and/or porch; 2 - light up your area to discourage potential criminals. Consider motion sensor or photo-cell (dusk-to-dawn) lighting instead of manually turning on/off your lights. Properly positioned and appropriate lighting (not too much or too little) is effective. 3. Landscaping. Trimming and pruning shrubs away from windows and doorways can eliminate potential hiding places for criminals, and it also communicates that attention is paid to your home. 4. Habits: Remove property from your vehicle and lock it, especially if you park on the street or in your driveway. Close your blinds/drapes each evening. Make sure your garage door is closed when not in use. 5. If you get up at night, take a second and look out a front window. If you see suspicious or criminal activity, call police (911) immediately.
Please call or email if you have questions about home security.
Stay safe!
